I would be tempted to tape on some black carton paper at the back, to cover up that opening.
Are the monitors the same? Why not just stack them? Might be able to hide the seam that way.

They are both Samsung Odyssey G9. Perhaps I slightly tip the top one down so it faces me. They will never line up.

Flip the top one upside down, so that the large bottom bezel is at the top. It will reduce the gap a lot.

u/Ninja_Prolapse 16h ago
Then get a gap mirror. Clips into the edge and basically fuzzies the colours from both so the gap disappears. Only ever seen them on Reddit ads so they’re probably terrible…

I guess it depends on the use case. They work well to add immersion on triple monitor setup for sim racing
41
u/HexaCube7 14h ago
Afaik they only exist for straight edges. This here would be along the curved edge and would need to be a concave shape.
That ain't gonna work without a special custom built bezel hider kit.

If you treat them as two separate areas, it doesn't really matter. Here they're identical displays and they seem intended to be a contiguous space.
But I've got two different screens and the gap doesn't really bother me, because I'm not using it like they're one bigger screen. Stuff stays in their respective area.

It's a custom keyboard hobbyist thing. We like to have smaller boards, but for some of us who wants a numpad sometimes, we'll get a separate numpad that we can put away whenever we like.
Some boards have it as a part of the kit, and can be wireless or have a quick disconnect setup. It's pretty cool.

I didn’t even think about this but you’re right. Current set up kind of defeats the purpose of ultra wide monitors lol. Might as well just have a giant screen instead
1.5k
u/Swimming_Possible_68 17h ago
Yes.... If you're doing this you might as well just get a huge TV
You have basically taken 2x 32:9 monitors to give yourself a standard 16:9 display but with a huge bezel gap!
342
u/johnny_crow21 16h ago
Lol that second paragraph is simply devastating to his effort plus cash. It’s true though! Mathematically he is getting the same result but with a shitier end product.

u/pigpentcg 14h ago
Is there a way in software to seperate a 16:9 display into 2 32:9 displays virtually? If not, then there is still some merit to his setup at least. Kinda. Not really.
23
u/Dizzy_Key_7400 12h ago
You can get displays with multiple inputs to deal with this. Dell used to do a 50” 4k monitor that could be used in any compilation of 4 smaller panels, 2 ultra wides, mix of both or a single large one.
4
→ More replies (1)3

And now they have a 52" 6K monitor that just needs a Thunderbolt connector. Though it can still do splitscreen/PIP via multiple inputs.

Fancyzones will let you split it up however you want.
3
u/pigpentcg 9h ago
Does Fancy Zones work contain games within a zone?
7
u/Sea-Debate-3725 8h ago
Yes as long as the game supports windowed mode and whatever resolution you have set the zone to be. If you made a zone with a weird aspect ratio the game probably won't support it, but most games support 16:9, 21:9, 32:9, and 4:3, so just make a zone with one of those and then configure the rest of your screen however you want since windows apps will scale to any aspect ratio.

u/narlzac85 13h ago
I really wanted a solution like this when I was using a TV as my monitor. It would have to be in the driver or be entirely external to the PC. The driver already lets you combine displays. Why not the reverse?

Are there big curved TVs out there?
I feel OPs setup may be very good for work, where you just have two very wide separate spaces to place your windows. Aligning apps on a single big screen would be bothersome, unless your running a tiling window manager (not possible under Windows I think?). Plus curvature is great if you're sitting really close to the screen.
For gaming or watching movies double screen like that makes no sense at all IMO.

Are the bottom bezels thicker than the top ones? If so flip the top monitor and tell that monitor to display “upside down” to help with the gap. I personally think the gap is fine but reducing the space between the pixels would be nice and I hope my suggestion might be of use.

Yeah my LG CX is a 48" OLED that I bought in 2020 for £800. 4K, 120hz, the best picture quality, and HDR that outstrips monitors by a long way.
This screen is one of if not the best upgrade in visual quality I've ever gotten. More than when I first moved from CRT to LCD, more than when I went from 1080p to 4K. The move from SDR LCD to HDR OLED still blows me away.
5 years later every time I watch something great in HDR it just puts the biggest dumbest smile on my face.

I've never really considered a setup like this and y'know, I don't really mind it. I think the comments are viewing it the wrong way, it's not meant to act as one giant screen so the gap doesn't matter. I'd use the bottom one for two productivity windows, half the top one for youtube/media and the other half for whatever. Then for gaming I'd just use the bottom one while using the top one for media/wikis/whatever.
